Oxfordshire Sports Partnership review
The Oxfordshire Sports Partnership has undertaken a strategy and governance review.
The review was carried out because the present funding for the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership ended on the 31st March 2009 and the main funders of the Partnership, Sport England, have recently published their new strategy, which is a departure from their previous direction.
The purpose of the strategy and governance review was to:
- Re align Oxfordshire’s sport and active recreation strategy ‘ Our Sporting Future’ to the recent national and local changes.
- Establish a clear scope for the Partnership and the purpose and functions of any Core Team
- Undertake an options appraisal on future governance options for the Partnership.
- Seek future funding to support any future Partnership structure and scope
To achieve this, a project team was set up with representatives from the key sectors: Local Authorities, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Primary Care Trust and Education. Consultation took place via email, group meetings, individual meetings and the Annual Conference, details of which are attached.
Following the consultation and consideration by the Oxfordshire Sports Board a postition statement was written which is attached.
Meanwhile the Government published their report ' Be Active, Be Healthy' in February 2009 and proposed funding County Sports Partnerships to take on a wider physical activity scope. The Oxfordshire Sports Board agreed to this wider scope at their April 2009 meeting but this will also now be considered via a short consultation period with key stakeholders and partners.
Meanwhile work for Sport England and the National Governing Bodies will continue via the attached service specification. Also attached is a draft Extended Coaching Functions specification that is being negotiated nationally.
More details are available from Chris Freeman, Managing Director.
