London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics

London 2012 will be one of the most far reaching sporting and cultural events in the world and the eyes of the world will be on the UK not only for the sporting and cultural events in 2012 but for the long lasting legacy the whole of the UK can benefit from in the years to come.

Nationally and regionally plans such as ‘Before during and after, making the most of the London 2012 games’ ( the Government’s Legacy Plan for the Games) and ‘Triple Gold’ the South East Regional Plan for the Games provide a context and direction to guide our legacy work

To ensure Oxfordshire can also maximise the legacy opportunities it is vital that we develop our own sporting legacy framework to add value and co-ordination to the existing good work planned.

Our Vision is:

To use the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to INSPIRE a lasting legacy for sport and physical activity in Oxfordshire

Way forward

We hope that partners and stakeholders can pledge their support for the framework and that it enables collaborative working to flourish and be enhanced.

Annual actions will be developed under the main themes and specific project groups encouraged taking projects forward.

We encourage organisations to develop their own legacy plans and link to the Oxfordshire plan when appropriate or when it can add value.

Our Oxfordshire ambitions by 2012 and beyond. To be…..

  • INSPIRED to increase levels of participation in sport and physical activity
  • INSPIRED to deliver a Paralympics legacy
  • INSPIRED to strengthen how we run sport and physical activity
  • INSPIRED to enhance existing priorities and link to national and regional initiatives
  • INSPIRED to enhance existing and new events
  • INSPIRED to support for our young people, not least the most talented
