Coaching

How to begin, improve and stay coaching

In Oxfordshire, we recognise that our staff, partners, coaches and volunteers are our greatest asset, and without supporting and developing the paid and volunteer workforce it will be impossible to increase participation or offer better access to sport and physical activity. Workforce development therefore underpins all our planning, ensuring that we can continue to be at the forefront of sport and physical activity supported by a dedicated, motivated and well trained workforce.

Coaching is one of the most rewarding aspects of sport and is central to the development of any sport and the individual participating in the sport. It is estimated that 500,000 people coach regularly in the UK, in environments ranging from the school playground to the international arena, however coaching is a continuing process and as such needs to be developed.

The development of high quality coaches will not only contribute to improving the quality of already existing activity but also generate new activity and increase participation.

Key areas of coach development within the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership are:

  • Coach Mentoring
  • Minimum Standards for Deployment of Coaches
  • Coach Development (Education courses, Recruitment projects)

COMING SOON - Oxfordshire Sports Partnership Coach Database

The Coach Database has been developed for all coaches across Oxfordshire to access.

Our partners are always looking for quality, locally based coaches to deliver coaching sessions. These may be paid or unpaid opportunities such as summer camps or after school clubs.

We have created this database so we can react to that demand and support Oxfordshire's coaches who are looking for additional coaching opportunities.

But even if you are not interested in employment opportunities you can still register and will receive all the following free benefits:

  • Discount on workshops
  • Be part of a coaching network
  • Access to essential coaching resources
  • Access to professional staff to support your coaching
  • Receive current information on topics including funding, job vacancies and coach education courses through our quarterly Coaching Matters newsletter.

If you have any questions regarding the Coach Database, Coach Development or if you have any good examples to add to the pages, please contact Denise Brown - Coach Development Officer at dmbrown@oxfordshiresport.org
