James Craggs - Active Recreation Officer

I joined the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership Core Team in December 2010 in the role of Disability and Inclusive Sports Officer covering Lucy Tappin’s maternity leave. I thoroughly enjoyed this role in particular the variety of the work and the partnerships I developed. I was subsequently made Active Recreation Officer in the autumn of 2011, a new role in the Core Team. In this role my main work areas are

  • Event managing the new Schools Games County final
  • Supporting the countywide Active Women project

Before coming to Oxfordshire I was a Sports Development Officer in West Berkshire where I worked on developing sporting programmes for families, supporting disability groups and developing sustainable sport and leisure projects in hard to reach rural West Berkshire. Prior to this I was a primary school teacher in Hampshire where I particularly enjoyed teaching PE and games, developing sporting opportunities for hard to reach groups and working as part of a school sport partnership.

Away from work I enjoy playing all sports but my main interest is Athletics where I am road running captain of Newbury Athletic Club helping to co – ordinate this aspect of the club as well as on the track, roads and cross country.

I really enjoy seeing the benefits sport can bring to individuals both physically, socially and emotionally as well as the benefits sport can bring to the wider community.
