Lucy Tappin - Disability Sports Development Officer
I have been involved in physical activity from a very early age, with a sporty family and great enthusiasm it was inevitable and great fortune that I am now working within the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership. I have played many different sports throughout my life at different levels with my main focus being Tennis, Netball and Football (depending on my delicate achilles!). I am currently the Oxfordshire Tennis Ladies County Champion and Captain of the county squad.
After finishing my University Sports Degree in Cardiff I was determined to work in the sports development field. My first post was Sports Development Officer at OXSRAD Integrated Leisure Centre, where I set up a weekly Integrated Sports Youth Club and Sportsability Sessions to introduce disabled children to new sports and many more activities.
From this I moved on to my current role that was newly created in 2004. I work closely with Local Authorities, NGB’s, Schools, Sports Clubs, Charities and organisations created to develop, run and support disability, inclusive and adapted sports in Oxfordshire.
I have recently completed my level one and two in sign language which I enjoy learning and using very much.
My aim is to improve the opportunities for people of all abilities to start, stay and succeed in Sport. I believe that sport is essential not only for a physically healthy nation but teaches many lessons in life about teamwork, determination and self-discipline.
