Getting started on the way to acheveing your National Governing Body Accreditation (Clubmark)

All National Governing Body (NGB) Club Accreditations have the Sport England Standard embedded into their schemes. To get started, compare what your clubs does and what your club will need to do to meet the basic criteria set down by Sport England. To get a copy of a specific sport criteria, please email the Sports Club Development Officer, Steve Kemp on sjkemp@oxfordshiresport.org

To self audit your club, please open the spreadsheet "Self Assessment".  You will find a list of criteria and areas of evidence to meet the criteria.

Rate your club

  • 2 = "The" club can provide evidence for the criteria.
  • 1 = "We" have part of the evidence and it needs more work.
  • 0 = "We" do not have the evidence in place to meet the criteria.

This provides the club with a snapshot of where they stand in relation to meeting the criteria. It will highlight the good practice and the areas for development within the club.

Where to go next?

When you have measured the club against the criteria what do you do first?

There are several options:

  1. Work through the list from the top to the bottom.
  2. Group the criteria into several sections:
  • Completed – evidence needs to be collated into the file for submission
  • Training – courses that need to be completed (e.g. Coach Awards, Equity in your Coaching Workshop)
  • Policies & Procedures – Documents created to support the development of the club (e.g. Codes of Conduct, Risk assessment)
  • Actions – Tasks to complete to help with the communication and the implementation of policy (e.g. Policy highlighted on notice boards, websites)

This gives you an indication of where to start first. Some criteria requires help from people outside the club, e.g. attendance on a training course. It might be wise to ensure that places are booked for required training courses so that the accreditation is not delayed because the club is waiting for a person to attend a course.

Policy and Procedures, your National Governing Body will be able to provide examples, or you can download them from the GOOD PRACTICE EXAMPLES page

This forms the basis of an action plan to prepare a club for accreditation.
